Wi-Fi Proves to Be a Boon for VoIP Services historically there has been slight doubt in anyone’s mind that the fundamental stumbling block for VoIP services over mobile phones has been the restrictions of Internet functions. Wireless data communities have so far been fairly finite quality, even when being able to deliver advantageous speeds at certain times.
For VoIP, the vital factor is not the speed of the Internet connection literally, but the dependability and the ease of connectivity. If the network drops packets on a ongoing basis, is unreliable, or takes an inordinate amount of time to connect, it is more or less useless as a VoIP service. VoIP doesn’t take up too much bandwidth as such, but it does place a premium on dependability.
Which is precisely why it has always done better on Wi-Fi networks rather than those provided by the telecom carriers.
Wi-Fi matches all the requirements for VoIP such as durability and speed.
It is in fact, only a notch lower than wired Internet connections. It is becoming more and more ubiquitous in hotels, eateries, and especially in homes, one cannot rely on a Wi-Fi network always being available. If you are journeying Whether one is driving, or is at the airport, the lack of reliable Wi-Fi connectivity moves users to fall back to either the wireless data networks, or the voice minutes provided by their telecom carrier.
What is required therefore, is more ubiquitous Wi-Fi wherever we are. Unfortunately Wi-Fi technology is such that it’s difficult to make a single carry far enough for it to be used by a vaste number of people. The only organization who has the power, money, infrastructure, and legal right to provide a huge network for public use is the government itself. Which is why the decision of the London government to provide free Wi-Fi for public use is so wonderful.
The Internet is a great asset. With openly reachable Wi-Fi, one can just imagine the bonuses for services such as VoIP not to mention the business sector and smaller business.
Free general public wireless Internet would probably act as the ultimate nail in the coffin of the traditional model of the telecom providers.
There’s no getting away from the fact that VoIP is the future and that new technological developments will only serve to cement that fortune. It’s only a matter of the time before new and become much better networks like 4G, or other dazzling new technologies rise up and carry the vessel of VoIP to its place.
